Peter Warburton, the superintendent of Amherst and Mont Vernon schools, made a unique goal at the beginning of the year. He wants to travel to 20 residentsâ homes and share his ideas, as well as to hear thoughts concerning the future of the school district.
âThe reason I am asking to talk with groups of community members is to reach out to a large and diverse number of citizens to allow some time for their superintendent to meet them in a smaller house setting and answer their questions about our schools and other topics of interest in education, budgets and the future of education,â Warburton said.
âI am reminded that in the early days of forming Souhegan High School, school leaders reached out to community members by doing something very similar. They went to peopleâs houses, sat in their kitchens and living rooms and backyards, discussed and argued about a new high school with a new philosophy.
