Did you know that Hollis Brookline High School is energy efficient?
The story starts with a grant from Public Service of New Hampshire for new lights received by the school. Custodian John Gray used the money to buy new âgreenâ gadgets for the school.
âWeâve always been cautious of energy,â Gray said.
The lights Gray chose werenât the normal incandescent lights that many still use in their homes. Instead, he chose to buy T5 lights.
T5 lights are fluorescent light bulbs that can last from 5,000-15,000 hours and are usually less expensive than competitors by a few dollars. The purchase led to an energy audit to see how efficient the building is.
Through the audit, buildings can be awarded an Energy Star for being at least 15 percent energy efficient.
