NASHUA â The 28th annual Greater Nashua CROP Walk went on as scheduled Oct. 28, and while they braved a steady drizzle and kept a wary eye on Hurricane Sandyâs impending arrival, the more than 300 walkers held their focus on the eventâs main purpose: to help those who struggle daily with hunger and poverty.
As of late last week, more than $40,000 in pledges had come in, not a record but quite impressive considering the weather, said the Rev. Jeff Evans of Nashuaâs First Church UCC, this yearâs coordinating parish. And that could rise still.
âHistory shows us that more pledges come in within a week or two afterward,â Evans said.
