With the presidential election only two days away, tensions have been running high in Kathy Johnsonâs AP Government & Politics class at Nashua High School South.
AP Gov students held a mock debate on Thursday in hopes of educating students about both partiesâ campaign platforms. They invited all classes to the auditorium to watch as they debated topics such as education, jobs, taxes, health care, foreign policy, social issues and energy.
The debate was followed by a mock election on Friday.
âIn the past, our school results have been very similar to the state results in the national election,â Johnson said.
The school election isnât the only one on which AP Gov students are focused. Many have extended their political involvement beyond the classroom.
Nadia Jaferey, a senior in Johnsonâs AP Gov class, volunteers seven hours a day on average at the local campaign headquarters for President Barack Obama.
âMy family has always been really political,â Jaferey said.
