The media room at Alvirne High School is abuzz with activity.
Students are running around with cameras, filming everything in sight, and the news is being brought to all of the students in their homerooms during B period, when they tune in to âStudio 19.â
âStudio 19â is a nickname for the morning announcements when theyâre shown on Channel 19. Itâs a program run by students, starring students, viewed by students and supervised by teachers.
The teachers who donate their time and knowledge to âStudio 19â are Lauren Denis and Nicole Shawver.
The announcements used to air sporadically, with one large group conducting them, but in order to allow more people to get a chance to dabble in the computer arts, the students are now divided into news teams, labeled by their days. Camaraderie and healthy competition are formed among the teams, which are Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Everyone strives to be the best, but in the end, all enjoy the journey.
This tends to be a senior-only activity â something kids look forward to for three years.
