Almanac same as it ever was

There are a few things in life that remain pretty constant, and it is always comforting to come across something that hasn’t changed much over the past 150 years. While I was looking for something else, since I had forgotten I had it and have no recollection of where I got it, I came across a copy of the “Old Farmer’s Almanack” for 1852, which was volume 60. The format has changed very little. My copy is very fragile, quite yellow and it doesn’t have the trademark hole in the upper left-hand corner – said to be there so it could be hung in the outhouse. Sort of like today’s bathroom reading. The old book is much thinner, 48 pages compared to the 250 or so in today’s, and it has no advertising other than a back page listing of other books from the publisher.
