Milford High School will try something new on June 6: donating to Locks of Love, a nonprofit foundation that makes wigs for people who have been diagnosed with cancer or other hair-loss diseases.
Foundations such as these accept individual donations but prefer âcut-a-thons,â at which a large group of people congregate and donate their hair for a nonprofit such as Locks of Love or Wigs 4 Kids.
Milford, Souhegan and Wilton-Lyndeborough high schools, through the Interact Club, are hosting a cut-a-thon at each school. Each volunteer will give 8 inches of hair for the cause, so morning announcements are reminding everyone not to get haircuts between now and them.
Each schoolâs goal is to get as much hair as possible. The personal reward for each donor is knowing how much his or her donation helps, because it may be about to change a patientâs life.
Like many school events, there is a physical reward, too. At Milford, the student from each grade who donates the most hair will receive an iTunes gift card from Interact.
For students who donât have very long hair, every inch cut at the event by Hair Force and Jessicaâs on the Oval qualifies for a raffle.
