Purvis wins National Geographic Bee at Amherst Middle School

AMHERST – Seventh-grader Liz Purvis won the school level of the National Geographic Bee on Jan. 13 at Amherst Middle School. Fifth-grader Nicholetta Hitt was the runner-up among the 39 participants. Liz will now take a written test that will be submitted to the National Geographic Bee. If she receives a top score on her exam, she will be invited to the state competition on March 30. About 100 students will compete at the state level competition.
