Alvirne High Schoolâs Student Council presented the Arabian Nights Semiformal Dance on Saturday night.
Every year, a spectacular semiformal is held in the gym, each one with its own unique theme. This year, it was all about the mystery of the Arabian culture, and the gym was decked out in glitter and decorations that made for a desert feeling.
The food was catered by Uno, which was an especially nice treat for students accustomed to the usual run-of-the-mill pizzas.
Also, as an interesting twist on the usual semi, a live performance by student band Figure 8 was incorporated into the evening. The opportunity for them to play covers of the latest songs was incredible for both the band and the audience.
Tickets were sold at all lunches throughout last week for $20, and students were buzzing about it days in advance.
Senior Beth Chaisson was both skeptical and hopeful last week.
âItâll be hard to live up to this yearâs homecoming,â she said, âbut it should still be a good time.â
The differences between the events surrounding the homecoming dance and this semiformal are almost as tremendous as the difference between the atmospheres during the two dances.
Homecoming was a black-light bash, and the semiformal was a desert romance.
Around homecoming, students were in the midst of a semester, working but balancing it out with fun. The semi, however, is sandwiched by the dreaded exam week.
