Just as all of New Hampshire was recently whipped up into primary frenzy, Souhegan High School got in on the action by holding its own mock primary.
On Jan. 6, Souheganâs gymnasium was open all day for students to come in and cast their âvoteâ for the presidential nominee on both the Republican and Democratic sides of the ticket.
The social studies department has held mock elections to coincide with actual elections since the school opened in 1992. The main purpose is to expose students to the voting process.
Students have the opportunity to register beforehand using the stateâs actual registration form, as well as on election day, just as the state allows. The setup in the gym is even close to what students might see if they walked in during the primary.
Besides being a fun way to get a handle on the schoolâs pulse, the mock process can be helpful in the classroom, as well.
