What started as a requirement for senior English has now turned into an opportunity for scholarship money.
Senior Emma Brett of Wilton-Lyndeborough Cooperative High School won the Veterans of Foreign Wars speech contest. The speech was an assignment for Brettâs public speaking course, Say It and Debate It. Her speech was submitted to the VFW Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Contest.
Brett submitted her speech to the Bedford VFW post. The topic was âIs there pride in serving in our military?â
English teacher Marcia Contarino was pleased with the results turned in by the other students, but Brettâs was the one that really stood out.
âEmmaâs speech was submitted to District 6 and a panel of judges unanimously chose her speech,â Contarino said.
