The Milford High School girls basketball team looked back on its success in 2012-13 to see what helped make them the school’s best team in 30 years. They realized that the bond they had on and off the court played a big role in their winning games. They were more than just teammates; they were sisters, a family. The girls started in the Milford Community Athletic Association league in elementary school, playing with or against each other. In middle school, the girls picked up with AAU basketball for the Silver Bullets, who are now called the Granite State Rockettes, and eight of the 10 players are currently playing on the team. In the summer months, they play for the Milford Summer Basketball League, which is co-ed and is a tough and fun experience that the girls always look forward to. They play in another summer league for high schools, and picked up a fall league at Rivier College. The girls spend a lot of time with each other on the basketball court, but also off the court. During the regular high school season, the night before every away game, the Spartans had a pasta party at one of the girls’ houses.
