NASHUA – Harbor Homes was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund for support of its Maple Arms Emergency Shelter. The shelter houses more than 130 people each year, including families, and must raise more than $70,000 annually to keep up with operations. Guests at Maple Arms a work with a case manager on strategies to help them overcome their homeless circumstances. Guests have access to health and behavioral health care, and assistance with finding employment and applying for entitlements for which they’re eligible. Clients pay only what they can afford at the shelter, and no one is turned away because of the inability to pay. “Because of difficult times, we are seeing a surge in the numbers of clients utilizing our Maple Arms Emergency Shelter, and the generous grant from the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund will assist us in serving many more homeless community members in the Greater Nashua area,” said Peter Kelleher, president and CEO of Harbor Homes. “We truly appreciate the support of the fund in helping us house more of our neighbors in need.” For an annual accounting of funds raised and disbursements by the Bishop’s Charitable Assistance Fund, visit www.catholicnh.org/BCAF.
