Many Campbell High School students are interested in politics because of the wide media coverage of issues that affect every citizen.
This is why New Hampshire gives students the opportunity to get involved as much as possible in state government.
The YMCA runs a program called Youth and Government that gives students access to the state Capitol Building for three days. About 300 students from 30 schools participate in Youth and Government.
Campbell students involved this year are seniors Justin Prindle, Josh Flynn and Craig Schultz, junior Jacob Parzych and sophomore Connor Cote.
The students elect fellow students to positions such as governor, House speaker, Senate president and chief justice of the Supreme Court. Other delegates participate as members of the House and Senate, Executive Council, Supreme Court, lobbyists or press corps.
Every member of Youth and Government must write a piece of legislation in the form of a bill. All of the bills are added to a bill book given to each member.
Flynn wrote a bill on the use of social networking sites such as Facebook at a business, and that companies shouldnât have the right to fire an employee if something negative is on Facebook even though itâs public.
The Pre-Legislative Training Session was held March 16, and Prindle was elected governor.
