Mr. BG Pageant has ‘prom-ising’ twist

Every year when Lent begins, Bishop Guertin High School begins its annual mission drive to raise money for the school’s trip to Zambia in June. The mission drive includes various fundraisers and solicits donations in homeroom to buy school supplies, clothes and other basic items for the children in Zambia. And for the second year in a row, a large benefactor of the fundraiser was the Mr. BG Pageant, an event held to raise money for the Africa Mission Drive. The pageant, which occurred March 15, included 10 seniors and juniors, and was hosted by seniors Emma Anand and Andres Howorth. The night provided great entertainment for the crowd as the boys competed in tuxedos with video, talent and interview portions. The winner, last year determined by judges, was chosen this year based on whichever contestant had the most money donated by audience members to the Africa Mission Drive in their honor. “All the contestants were clearly really excited to compete and perform, and I think the fact that it was for charity made the entire thing a little more salient,”  Howorth said. “My co-host, Emma Anand, was great, too, and from what we could tell, the crowd had a good time.
