In the current era of cyberbullying and teenage misuse of the Internet, a refreshing new Web personality has been created to brighten the social media of Bishop Guertin High School students. This “person” is “BG Compliments,” a new Facebook and Twitter account created by an anonymous BG student. The Facebook page was started in early December, and the Twitter page was born this month as a response to the wonderful success of the experiment on Facebook. As described by the cover photo of the Facebook page, the idea of a page dedicated to complimenting students was born at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, and many high schools have adapted the friendly idea. The compliments are sent over Facebook messaging to “BG Compliments,” and they’re posted anonymously on the page. Everyone at BG loves the positivity and kindness that the page has inspired both on Facebook and in school. “People often use the cover of the Internet and its perceived anonymity to bully and spread hurtful, venomous messages,” history teacher Dr. Anthony Zavagnin said.
