Nashua High School North is competing on the âGranite State Challengeâ television show, one of New Hampshireâs oldest and proudest traditions in high school academic excellence.
The show, which is celebrating its 29th season, is an academic bowl-style competition in which teams of high school students compete for scholarships and acclaim. Contestants are quizzed on categories ranging from history to mythology to popular culture.
The 2013 season has seen several changes in the show. While in previous years teams that expressed a desire to participate were able to do so, âGranite State Challengeâ changed the method in which teams are selected to compete â which made Northâs qualifying-round victory all the more commendable.
Northâs team consists of seniors Priyanka Satpute, George Goodwin and Madeline Doctor, and juniors Kara Upton, Erica Vendituoli and Melissa Givens. The team is coached by Timothy Bosch and Todd Campion.
To qualify for the honor of competing on television, the North team beat out more than 30 teams in the âGranite State Challenge Super Sundayâ qualifying round, a component new to the show this year.
