Hollis Brookline High Schoolâs auditorium was filled on Nov. 17 by parents, students and people from out of town, all there to watch âTo Kill a Mockingbird.â
As playgoers entered the auditorium, many were in awe of the âtreeâ growing from the right side of the stage to the top of the ceiling. A tire swing hung from the tree, and a small town of houses set the scene for the play.
The lights flickered as everyone took their seats, and just a few seconds later, members of the audience began to sing. There was no music to keep a melody to, just the slow tune of âTrying to Make Heaven My Home.â
A woman wearing a scarf, as well as actors portraying minorities, grouped together while singing the spiritual.
Director Elyse Tomlinson represented different races with the use of costumes.
