“The Drowsy Chaperone” is a musical within a show and is successful in “taking you to another world.” The Merrimack High School Drama Club will perform the play at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. The play is directed by Fran White, theater director at Merrimack High. As the curtain opens, we meet the Woman-in-Chair, played by sophomore Abigail Varano. To lift her spirits, she puts on a record of her favorite musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone.” As soon as she  puts the needle on, the musical comes to life in her small apartment. The audience is transported to the glamorous world of the 1920s, where they’re consumed in the comedy and excitement of the show and are able to forget about their everyday stresses. There’s going to be a wedding between oil tycoon Robert Martin (senior Kaycee Hutchins) and Broadway starlet Janet Van De Graaff (senior Anna-Maria Forger).
