Wilton-Lyndeborough Cooperative High School will be starting a Disc Golf Club for students by next summer.
Disc golf is an outdoor sport thatâs becoming popular. According to dgcoursereview.com, the number of disc golf courses in the United States has more than doubled in the last eight years.
Based on principles of traditional golf, players try to toss a disc into a bucket in as few throws as possible. A disc golf course has a number of buckets laid out over an area similar to the holes in golf.
Brice Miller, WLCâs athletics director, said the course material and setup labor will be donated by a WLC alumnus who works at a company that makes disc golf courses.
Miller also said the course will be in the wooded area of the WLC campus circling the building. He said the course will be finished by the beginning of the 2013-14 school year.
Nick Kovaliv, a WLC science teacher and outdoors enthusiast, said he loves disc golf and canât wait for the new course.
âIt was supposed to be done by this summer,â Kovaliv said with disappointment.
Many students at WLC have never even heard of disc golf, but when it was explained to them, they seemed eager to start playing.
âI look forward to it,â senior Ivan Anderson said.
