BROOKLINE – Cameron Randlett, 16, recently completed his community-based Eagle Scout project. Randlett and a crew of friends and fellow Scouts from Brookline Troop 260 removed the old, rotted post and rail fence system surrounding Richard Maghakian Memorial School. In addition, the boys removed much of the brush and bushes that overgrew the surrounding woods. The project included replacing the fence with new materials. Randlett worked with the Brookline School system and also organized a fundraiser that helped pay for some of the materials. The fence project was recently completed with new posts, rails and mesh system. To show their appreciation, Principal Liz Perry held an assembly at which the elementary school students and staff recognized the efforts of Randlett and some of his crew.

TYNGSBOROUGH, Mass. – Advice about roommates, time management strategies, budgeting money and even the necessity of bleach wipes were just some of the topics covered in a lively event that brought together alumnae and current students for the Academy of Notre Dame’s Young Alumnae Panel, sponsored by the Advancement Office and Alumnae Association. In what has become an annual event, several alumnae met with academy juniors and seniors to offer advice on what lies ahead for the girls as the prepare for college. Throughout the event, the alumnae referred to how well they were prepared for the rigors of college both in and outside the NDA classroom. Whether it was reusing notes from biology or chemistry class or the management of time, the academy’s teachers had prepared them for their pursuit of higher education. Questions ranged from the best approach to the application process to how to maintain distance relationships. “In your college essay, it’s important to tell the college what you can do for them, not only why you want to go to their school,” said Kat Struckman, a junior at MIT who is a mechanical engineering major. “Be specific, do your research and let them know what an asset you will be as a part of their community.” Time management and money management also were concerns of the juniors and seniors. “Unlike NDA, where you have all your classes one after another, my classes are early in the morning,” said Shauna Martin, a sophomore nursing major at Boston College.

HUDSON – Adventure5k is looking to defend the title of “best adventure race,” an honor that was awarded in 2012 by The Best of New Hampshire. Adventure5k is once again seeking runners who are ready to push themselves to the next level and endure the obstacles of the race. More than 450 runners are registered for the 5K race, which will be held Saturday, June 1, at Liquid Planet Water Park & Zip Lines (www.liquidplanetwaterpark.com), Candia. Adventure5k organizers are working with CrossFit Tuff (crossfittuff.com) to deliver another challenging race. “It is a pleasure to be working with the owners of CrossFit Tuff once again,” race director Shana Hoch said. “With the feedback we received from participants last year, the experience we gained from hosting two races and the new ideas we have for the course, we are looking forward to seeing some muddier and more exhausted runners cross our finish line this year.” Events manager Kimberly Lencki said racers should expect the unexpected this year. “While participants might have the advantage of running the property last year, they will be pleasantly surprised by the tricks we have up our sleeve for the new course,” she said. Organizers expect more than 1,000 runners and more than 2,400 spectators. Wave times are filling up quickly, with two already closed. To register, visit www.adventure5k.com. The registration fee is discounted the earlier runners sign up; the current price is $60 through Thursday, Feb.

NASHUA – Infant Jesus School, along with 7,500 other Catholic schools across the country, celebrated Catholic Schools Week from Jan. 27-Feb. 2. The purpose of Catholic Schools Week, which was started in 1974, is to build community awareness of and involvement in Catholic schools throughout the country. Or, as Father Patrick, of Blessed John XXIII Parish in Nashua, called it, “It is a weeklong pep rally for Catholic education.” The theme this year was “Catholic Schools Raise the Standards,” and the students at Infant Jesus School did not disappoint. The celebration at Infant Jesus began Monday morning with a Mass at which the students presented all of the mittens and gloves they collected as part of their schoolwide Helping Hands Project. All of the mittens and gloves were to be donated to the Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter and Corpus Christi Food Pantry. On Tuesday morning, the hallways overflowed with excitement as the students welcomed their “Special Person” to their classroom.
