NASHUA â A record number of 64 volunteers joined forces with nine members of the Mine Falls Park Advisory Committee and personnel from the Nashua Parks and Recreation Department in April in completing a major cleanup and trail diversion of the 325-acre park in the heart of the city.
The volunteers included students from Daniel Webster College, the Nashua High School South and North honor societies, and employees and guests from Starbucks who performed their environmental community service day.
Among the tasks accomplished were rerouting the Red Trail on the east side near Mill Pond, removing the invasive bittersweet species from the Seventh Street Bridge area and a general housecleaning of the major trails.
The students helped clean the area known as the Triangle, which contains a drain for runoff from the turnpike and cleaning of the embankment from the turnpike into the park.
âIâd have to classify this as a monumental successful trail day,â said the advisory committee chairman, Rabbi Joshua Segal, âwhat with the record number of volunteers and the amount of tasks that was accomplished.
âKudos to the volunteers and committee members, who did an outstanding job.â
