NASHUA â The halls have been alive with the sound of music at Infant Jesus School and Nashua Catholic Regional Junior High School for the last few months.
The chorus students at both schools have been busy learning and practicing liturgical music thanks to their music director, Carol Yetto.
Yettoâs love of liturgical music led her to become affiliated with the American Federation Pueri Cantores, the youth choral organization of the Catholic Church. It provides opportunities for school-age youth choirs from all backgrounds to perform at religious and non-religious choral festivals in concert halls and cathedrals throughout the United States and Europe.
Local choirs learn the same music so that festival concerts feature a large chorus of young people who sing together as one.
Pueri Cantores recently performed for the first time in New England, and with Yettoâs direction, the Infant Jesus and Nashua Catholic chorus students had the chance to participate in their first Pueri Cantores Choral Festival at St. Paulâs Church in Cambridge, Mass., on March 24.
Fourteen students from Infant Jesus and five from Nashua Catholic were the only ones from New Hampshire to participate. In total, 90 students from all over New England participated.
The children had the opportunity to sing in Latin for the duration of the Mass, along with eight additional songs.
