NASHUA – Tokyo Joe’s Studios of Self Defense hosted a women’s self-defense seminar on March 22 to raise money for a local team of women who will be participating in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Boston on May 19-20. Nearly 30 women of all ages learned basic self-defense techniques and simple strategies to avoid threatening situations. Grand Master Bobby LaMattina headed the class, which raised $550. LaMattina has more than 42 years of experience in the martial arts and has taught numerous seminars across New England to help with bullying problems and women’s self-defense. In addition to the proceeds from the self-defense fundraiser, students and parents from Tokyo Joe’s have donated money to the Avon Walk team. The team includes Sarah Murphy, Tracie Looney, Jessica Caissie and Amy Shimkus, who attended the seminar. For more information, contact LaMattina at his studio, 143 W. Pearl St., or 889-4165, or Looney at 1-978-758-8179.
