âGuitar Night was bombâ: Thatâs how junior Devin Fauteux described the event, a unique and multifaceted show consisting of two nights of live music held at the beginning of April each year at Hollis Brookline High School.
Industry-standard equipment, including lights, amps, a drum kit and a dedicated staff â are all brought in to help facilitate the show, transforming students into rock gods onstage.
It isnât a competition; the attitude of Guitar Night has always differed from similar high school talent shows in that itâs friendly and collaborative â a night of many musicians working together to put on what could well be the most anticipated night of entertainment of the HBHS school year.
The audience was impressed again this year by the vast amount of talent they saw.
âIn years past, itâs been an incredible show ⦠and this year, it lived up to those expectations,â said junior Evan Russell, who visited on the first night, Friday, April 6.
Sophomore Matt Mailloux visited Guitar Night to watch and photograph, but mostly to listen to the awesome talent on display.
âThere was so much variety there,â he said of the second night, April 7. âYouâve got all genres represented there. I mean, it opened with country and went all the way to screamo. ⦠Next thing I knew, there were trumpets on the stage.â
The acts Mailloux mentioned were:
Horse Hockey, which featured senior Kyle Gervais, sophomore Alec Gervais and juniors Tim Rencken, Jon Tamposi and Nick Noval.
Maelstrom, consisting of juniors Emma MacDonald, Matt Carr and Ryan Johnson, senior John Shattuck and sophomore Mike Cataluna.
The Funkadactyls, which included juniors Ben Michon, Adam Oullette and Justin Nierendorf and sophomore Chazz Rogers.
All of the acts had varying levels of experience.
