NASHUA – This year, walkers from Hudson, Dracut, Mass., and Lyman in northern New Hampshire will join Walk MS to help raise awareness and funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. “We call ourselves ‘Destination: Cure’ because each step we take during the walk brings us closer to a cure,” said team captain Laura Lockhart. “Our team hopes to raise close to $2,500 this year through our new fundraising efforts. Although our team members have varied over the years, this will be the sixth year our core team members have participated in the walk.” The National MS Society provides aid to those with MS, educate the newly diagnosed and people who care for them, and help fund the research that brings new medications, and therefore, hope to those struggling with the disease and its symptoms, Lockhart said. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system, which is made up of the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision.
