Nashua South Senate starts mural to promote unity

Nashua High School South students are all about making a difference in their communities. Much of the change starts in the Student Senate, a student government body that has been around for years. In previous years, the Senate has voted to change the grading scale to the more commonly used 10-point scale and passed a bill to let students listen to iPods and MP3s in between classes. Now, the Senate is about to add a mural to the list. When the Senate officers were brainstorming ideas for projects to work on, senior co-President Jackie Gillis came up with the idea of a mural. “I wanted us to have a lasting impression on South,” she said. “When I come back to visit, I want to know I contributed positively to my school.” Since the idea involved painting on the walls of the school, the students brought it to Principal Jennifer Seusing’s desk. “She was excited and enthusiastic about the idea,” Gillis said. Thinking back to last year’s Project Firework, which included a schoolwide lip dub, the Senate wanted to do something with a similar theme and thus thought of creating an anti-bullying and peace mural. In talking with the Senate, Seusing suggested the involvement of the Art Honor Society to help execute the plan.
