HUDSON â Imagine if you had the opportunity to buy the headpiece Sarah Bernhardt wore in âZaire,â or bid on Elphabaâs levitating broomstick from âWicked.â
Props, set pieces and tidbits of wardrobe used by actors on stage present a unique alternative to programs and T-shirts as souvenirs from a favorite theatrical performance.
Itâs also not a bad way to recoup some expenses for a self-funded high school theater troupe like Alvirneâs Class Act, which is auctioning of portions of the set from its upcoming performance of Noel Cowardâs âBlithe Spiritâ on March 16, 17 and 18.
Why? Patty Langlais, head of On Stage, the parent-support group for Alvirne High Schoolâs drama club, said a stage auction is a fun idea and also addresses a lot of logistical problems that this and other school acting clubs have.
âWeâd never thought of this before, but a member of the community who was helping to gather props, gave us the idea.
