NASHUA â Hours before the doors opened on the 17th annual Empty Bowls fundraiser on Feb. 22 at Nashua High School South, savvy veterans began their search for the perfect creation as student volunteers filled tables with hundreds of handmade stoneware bowls.
A few of the early arrivals settled on a bowl quickly, but most spent time picking up and inspecting bowls of every shape, size and color.
A long line of folks, bowls in hand, formed outside the cafeteria, some chatting as they waited. When the cafeteria doors finally opened, guests wound their way to the kitchen with bowls in hand to get their first glimpse of more than 15 soups, stews and chilies donated by a host of local eateries.
Folks listened to instrumental and choral jazz music provided by Southâs jazz band and choir.
Once in the kitchen, diners faced the daunting task of picking something to try first. Chili, as well as mushroom, potato and leek soup, were early draws for the crowd.
As the evening progressed, people questioned other guests as they decided what to try next.
