NASHUA – Amherst Street Elementary School presented a “Basket of Love” to the Nashua Exchange Club for everything it does as the school’s Partner in Education. Amherst Street students and staff baked goodies and wrote thank-you notes for the club members. By receiving volunteer and other resource support from the club, Amherst Street is able to balance resources to provide students with the best educational experience possible. The Exchange Club, a network of community volunteers across the U.S., is a service organization with 700 clubs and more than 21,000 members throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, and is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. The Exchange Club supports Amherst Street students by supplying support such as the “Shoes for School” program, holiday assistance, library books, Family Night help, classroom technology and the donation of “The Freedom Shrine” to enhance students’ knowledge about the most important and historical American documents. The club’s “Shoes for School” program was established three years ago. It offers students and families a gift certificate to use at Alec’s Shoes on Main Street in Nashua.
