How many people are on the board of governors of the Federal Reserve System? While there are many who don’t know the answer to this question, four Nashua High School South seniors can answer it in a matter of seconds. Nashua South created a team to compete in the 2011 Reserve Cup Challenge hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. Schools from each state in New England have the opportunity to enter a group of four students in the challenge, which is set up in a quiz show format. Students are tested on their knowledge in a variety of financial matters, including financial literacy, macroeconomics and monetary policy. Seniors Avery Klein, Martin McNeish, Sean Stempler and Cade Miller were approached by social studies teacher Neil Claffey at a Finance Club meeting. Claffey introduced the concept of the challenge, and the four students quickly jumped onboard. The first round of the competition is run as an interactive Webcast quiz, with each state having its own Web conference. Students watch a live video feed and a PowerPoint presentation simultaneously.
