I have no clue how that collection of letters should be pronounced. If I copied it correctly, it is what the native Penacooks called the area around the mouth of what people in Amherst now call Beaver Brook. Whether it is one word or a collection of words, I have no idea.
I had heard that there was a Native American name for the brook, but didnât know the spelling until I recently came across a delightful little book called âRambles About Amherst.â It was written in 1890 by W.B. Rotch, publisher of the Amherst Farmersâ Cabinet.
