NASHUA â Amherst Street Elementary School announced that the Exchange Club of Nashua recently won a 2011 Gold Circle Award from the New Hampshire Partners in Education.
The Exchange Club supports the needs of Amherst Street students by providing a Shoes for School Program, family holiday assistance, family night support, technology for classroom support and the recent donation of âThe Freedom Shrine.â
The shrine is a collection of 32 framed, wall-mounted historical documents that enhance studentsâ knowledge of American history. Among the important documents displayed are The Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, Abraham Lincolnâs Gettysburg Address, John F. Kennedyâs inaugural address and Martin Luther Kingâs âI Have a Dreamâ speech.
The clubâs Shoes for School Program was established three years ago to offer students a gift certificate to Alecâs Shoes on Main Street. The program has provided discounts to close to 80 students to date.
The club has also been supplying gift cards for groceries for school families in need during the holidays and donated a projector for the media center.
Each year, New Hampshire Partners in Education presents Gold Circle Awards to school partners as a means of celebrating the strong ties between community business leaders and schools and schoolchildren.
