For the first time in years, Souhegan High School is hosting Strictly Music, a night giving local bands the spotlight and teenagers the freedom to dance and sing. Years ago, these special nights were headed by popular local acts such as the Sea Captains, the Jonee Earthquake Band, Shamherst, Flick Tracy and Undertow, but the last successful event was held in 2009. Now, in the new era of Strictly Music, Souhegan takes a fresh road: headlining bands are traveling all the way from Rhode Island to be a part of this special revival night. Kory Boutin, a Souhegan alumnus and now an experienced musician, participated in Strictly Music while at the school.“The last Strictly show I played was with a band called Shamherst my sophomore year,” Boutin said. “I’ve been playing music since I was about 4 years old. The first show I played was when I was 15, and since then I’ve played countless shows, as well as toured across the country.” Why would Boutin want to come back to a high school after all of his musical accomplishments? “I believe shows like Strictly Music are extremely important for high schools,” he said.
