All students aspire to reach a specific goal during their five days a week in high school. Some wish to score the winning goal in a sport, participate more in lecture or just to get to class on time. For the business students of Merrimack High School, their goal for the week of Feb. 11 involved a 100- question test, role playing and the chance to learn what it will be like to work in the business world. Then on Thursday, business students from all over the state competed at the DECA state conference. The Distributive Education Clubs of America is a nonprofit organization that helps prepare students in high school and college with hands-on experience of how to be successful in business careers such as accounting, marketing and hospitality. Students participate by choosing from more than 100 categories of interest. In that particular area of study, students must pass a 100-question test and role play a specific scene on detailed subject matter from their category. Points from the test and the role play are combined to create their score.
