Arlington National Cemetery errors hit home

Today, I would like to discuss one of the most revered grounds in the United States – the rolling hills and history of Arlington National Cemetery. To start, I don’t believe the military – meaning the soldiers of the three infantry regiments, the Old Guard – had anything to do with the mishandling of records at Arlington National Cemetery. After the discovery of eight urns of cremated remains of soldiers in a grave marked “Unknown” in Arlington National Cemetery, the FBI and the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division opened an investigation to determine the extent of the problem and to correct paperwork errors spanning the 150-year history of the cemetery, according to The Washington Post. The report found gravesites improperly marked, and discrepancies between cemetery maps and gravesites and unmarked graves. The military has since identified three sets of remains through tags found in the urns. To find the identity of the remaining remains will be difficult as you cannot use DNA on burnt remains.
