HOLLIS – Hollis Girl Scouts Michaela Pillion and Natalie Lewis recently earned the Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest community service award a Girl Scout Cadette can achieve. To earn the award, they had to plan and implement a project with a positive and lasting impact on the community. Their project, BooksM.A.R.T. – Many Advantages of Reading Together – consisted of building bookshelves for the Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter and filling them with more than 2,900 donated books for young children. Additionally, the Cadettes recorded more than 40 audiobooks on CD for the shelter. In addition to receiving the Silver Award, the Cadettes were recently nominated by the Girl Scouts of Green and White Mountains for the Prudential Spirit of Community Service Award, the country’s largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service. Pillion and Lewis, who are avid readers, felt a book-related project would be perfect for them.
