FITCHBURG, Mass. – Third-graders at Applewild School enjoyed Colonial Days with a full day of activities that gave the students firsthand experience of what it was like to grow up in early Massachusetts. Events for the day included making squash soup using vegetables grown in the school garden; maple sugar candies; corncob dolls; pomanders, sachets and necklaces made out of beans and cranberries; playing Hubbub, a Native American game; and learning the Virginia Reel. They also had a presentation on Native American culture. Shown here in colonial garb is Sophia Bueno from Nashua.
