To the Editor: On behalf of the residents of Hollis, its Conservation Commission sends a sincere “Thank you” to the 35 citizens who participated in the fall roadside cleanup and the many more who routinely pick up trash as they walk through their neighborhood. Of particular note for their help last Saturday were members of the Hollis-Brookline Rotary Club and the Hollis Democrats. The Rotary Club has participated in the biannual service project since its inception 10 years ago and their support has been inspirational to others and greatly appreciated by those who care about the appearance of our town. In a Conservation Commission election year challenge to the local branch of the two major political parties, it was the Democratic Party that demonstrated the greater degree of civic pride with 11 of their members participating in the roadside cleanup. Included in their group were candidates Peggy Gilmour and Kat McGhee, each of whom thanked the commission for sponsoring the event. The local Democrats were the overwhelming winners in the roadside cleanup challenge and the residents of Hollis and the volunteer members of its Conservation Commission are very thankful for their help and example.
