AMHERST – As the days grow shorter and winter is near, we all feel the need to batten down the hatches for the difficult weather that will be heading our way. For the people who work at animal shelters, this season can be particularly problematic, as they have to make sure their charges are kept warm and fed throughout these icy months. For nearly two decades, one of these charities, Kitty Angels, has been helped by Treasures Antiques, Collectables & More through its annual open house, “Home for the Holidays.” Each year, local vendors get together to raise money for the welfare of our furry friends. This year, the event will be take place from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. A plethora of items will be available for sale, including stocking stuffers, antiques, collectibles, furniture, furnishings, books, clothing, jewelry, food, pet items and household gifts. There also will be raffles to support Kitty Angels, which will be present with numerous cats available for adoption. “This is our 21st event, and the 18th to benefit Kitty Angels,” said Sherry Tobin, co-owner of Treasures Antiques. “It’s a sort of scaled-down version of our May event, but we still have a huge number of vendors pitching in to help out.” Tobin said that although many of the vendors are veterans of the event, several new businesses have joined, including the New England Brethren of Pirates, who will entertain patrons throughout the day. “These people are extremely serious about what they do,” Tobin said.
