Student leadership plays an important role in the functioning of a student body.
To help develop strong leaders at Nashua High School North, athletics director Tom Aria created the schoolâs first Captains Council. Consisting of captains from all of the schoolâs varsity sports teams, the council meets once a month to discuss student leadership and different topics regarding the North community.
âThe mission of the Captains Council is to identify our student-athlete leaders so that they can help strengthen not only their athletic programs individually, but North high school as a whole,â Aria said. âWe want to educate them on being captains. We want our student athletes to be able to identify their own strengths and weaknesses, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of others, to help build a stronger program.
âIf we build a stronger program within our athletic system, we are now building a stronger school.â
At the first meeting, the council discussed topics ranging from student attendance at athletic events to fan behavior.
