A schoolwide announcement at Nashua High School North on Tuesday revealed three seniors as semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship competition.
The students are Olivia Powell, Priyanka Satpute and Madeline Doctor. Each qualified by achieving a high score on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test last fall. According to NationalMerit.org, about 16,000 students across the country were selected as semifinalists.
âIâm very excited to have qualified,â said Doctor, who said she prepared for the PSATs âwith practice tests, but nothing special.â
âYou can never really be sure whatâs going to happen with scholarships and applications,â Powell said, âbut I hope I will be honored with a final scholarship. I didnât really do anything to prepare for the PSATs, except taking them sophomore year.â
As semifinalists, Powell, Satpute and Doctor must submit their high school transcripts and additional test scores to the National Merit Scholarship Corp.
